In-Building Public Safety Radio Systems

ERRCS/ERCES Testing and Inspection

Even if your ERRCS/ERCES meets the radio signal strength thresholds one year, developments such as newly constructed buildings or towers can cause it to drop below the code-required threshold. Annual testing and inspection help to ensure that your ERRCS/ERCES continues to meet the relevant thresholds and remains compliant with Fire Code, NFPA, and IFC standards.

Annual Inspections are Required by Code

RapidFire Safety & Security and Comsec Associates help keep your ERRCS/ERCES compliant through our annual ERRCS/ERCES testing and inspection services, which cover:

  • Test and inspect the Bidirectional Amplifier (BDA)
  • Test and inspect the fiber optical headend and remote units
  • Assess power supplies and batteries
  • Verify performance of the rooftop Donor Antenna and indoor Distributed Antenna System (DAS)
  • Inspect every active component of the In-Building Public Safety Radio System

If your system is no longer compliant, we can also provide an ERRCS/ERCES recertification service that resolves many issues. Plus, we can even send you a reminder each year to ensure you don’t forget about your code-required annual inspection.

Code-Compliant Grid Test Radio Performance Verification

To first determine whether your building requires a public safety radio enhancement system, we will perform a code-compliant benchmark grid test.

If your building is already equipped with an ERRCS/ERCES, we use specialized test equipment and radios currently in service with the local fire and police agencies to confirm it still meets the mandated in-building standards and signal strength thresholds, it’s important to verify the system’s performance. RapidFire’s radio-performance verification services gives you confidence that your system works at the code required level, while helping you comply with the relevant regulations.

Our verification service includes signal strength (RSSI) and Delivered Audio Quality (DAQ) testing to measure coverage and identify dead zones.

Code-Compliant Grid Test Radio Performance Verification

Getting your ERRCS/ERCES up to the required standards is just one part of compliance, as without the necessary reporting, you can still find yourself facing substantial state and local fire code and federal (FCC) violations.

RapidFire Safety & Security and Comsec Associates make reporting easy by producing detailed reports following any inspection, test, or verification service. By providing specific performance metrics, along with explanations of our findings, background information, and inspector certifications (NICET, FCC, and equipment manufacturer) we give you the proof of compliance you need for your Authority Having Jurisdiction (AHJ) submission.
